EVE Frontier has entered Cycle 7: Vestiges, bringing some of the biggest gameplay changes yet to the space survival sandbox.

The update, which launched on September 29, introduces a new flight system, deeper character and ship progression, physical docking, expanded exploration and more capable Feral Drones.

Cycle 7 also comes with a universe reset, giving players a fresh Frontier to explore while the game continues through Founder Access.

What's New in Cycle 7: Vestiges

Aim Flight Changes How You Fly

The biggest change in Cycle 7 is the new Aim Flight control system.

Aim Flight is now the default control scheme, allowing players to steer their ship using the mouse while using the keyboard to control things like acceleration, strafing and rolling.

That gives ships much more freedom of movement than before and opens up new ways to approach combat and exploration.

Players aren't locked into the new system, either. You can switch between Aim Flight and the existing WASD controls whenever you want.

Movement and targeting can also be separated, meaning you can fly in one direction while aiming your weapons somewhere else. That adds a new layer to ship combat and gives players more control over how they approach fights.

Ship fitting also matters more. Thrusters and engines now have a bigger impact on how a ship performs, including thrust, fuel efficiency and handling.

In other words, your ship isn't just about what it looks like on paper. The way you build it can directly affect how it feels to fly.

A New Skill System

Cycle 7 also introduces a new skill system for both your Character and Shell.

Players gain experience while operating in the Frontier, allowing them to develop skills that improve the effectiveness of different actions.

For players who have already spent a lot of time in Founder Access, this adds another layer of progression to work toward. Instead of simply collecting resources and improving your equipment, there's now a longer-term progression system tied to how you play.

Docking Is Now Physical

Docking has also received a major overhaul.

Instead of simply disappearing into a station or structure, your ship now physically attaches to docking ports on objects and infrastructure — and remains visible in the world.

It's a relatively simple change, but it makes the Frontier feel more physical and connected.

For a game built around player-created infrastructure, industry and logistics, seeing ships actually dock with the structures around them makes those systems feel more tangible.

Feral Drones Are Getting Smarter

One of the more interesting changes in Vestiges is the expanded role of Feral Drones.

Feral Drones can now scan, travel, mine, salvage and scavenge on their own. They can also compete for many of the same resources that players are looking for.

The important part is that they don't have perfect knowledge of the space around them. They have to detect signatures, process information and react based on what they can actually determine.

That makes them more than just enemies waiting for players to encounter.

Feral Drones can now be an unpredictable part of the Frontier, potentially showing up in places where players are already competing for valuable resources.

More to Explore

Cycle 7 also expands exploration.

The universe reset introduces a newly generated Frontier, while multi-star system travel opens up more of the universe for players to discover.

That matters because exploration in EVE Frontier isn't simply about finding somewhere new to visit. What players discover can feed into resource gathering, industry, logistics and competition with other players.

With the universe changing and more systems to explore, there should be plenty of reasons for players to venture beyond familiar territory.

Why Cycle 7 Matters

Cycle 7 is more than another content update.

Several of the changes in Vestiges affect how the universe itself is generated and how players discover it, which is why the cycle begins with a universe reset.

EVE Frontier is still in development and available through Founder Access, so these cycles are also an opportunity for the developers to test and expand major systems before the game's eventual launch.

And this cycle puts a lot of attention on the fundamentals of the game.

Flying a ship is more flexible. Character and Shell progression is deeper. Ship fitting has a greater effect on performance. Feral Drones can operate more independently. And exploration is expanding across a larger, newly generated universe.

The result is a Frontier that should feel less predictable and potentially much more dangerous.

For players already invested in EVE Frontier, Cycle 7 gives them plenty of new systems to experiment with.

For everyone else, it could be an interesting time to see what this unusual space sandbox is becoming.

FAQs About EVE Frontier Cycle 7

What is the universe reset in EVE Frontier Cycle 7?

Cycle 7 begins with a universe reset because several of the update's changes fundamentally alter how the universe is generated and how players discover it.

EVE Frontier is still in development, and server wipes occur between cycles during this stage of development.

What is Aim Flight in EVE Frontier?

Aim Flight is the new default flight control system introduced in Cycle 7.

It allows players to steer their ship with the mouse while using the keyboard for movement controls such as acceleration, strafing and rolling.

Players can switch between Aim Flight and the existing WASD controls.

Movement and targeting can also be separated, allowing a ship to travel in one direction while aiming weapons in another.

What can Feral Drones do in Cycle 7?

Feral Drones can now scan, travel, mine, salvage and scavenge independently. They can also compete for many of the same resources as players.

Unlike a simple enemy that waits for the player to find it, Feral Drones can operate around the Frontier and respond to information they discover themselves, making them a more dynamic part of the game's environment.

Does EVE Frontier have a new skill system?

Yes. Cycle 7 introduces skills for both Characters and Shells.

Players gain experience while operating in the Frontier and can develop skills that improve the effectiveness of different actions.

Can you still use WASD controls?

Yes. Aim Flight is the new default, but players can switch between Aim Flight and the existing WASD control scheme.

Is EVE Frontier an onchain game?

Yes. EVE Frontier is an onchain game <a href="Yes. EVE Frontier is an onchain game built on the Sui blockchain. Its underlying data layer uses Sui to bring blockchain-based infrastructure into the game, allowing players and developers to interact with and build on the state of the Frontier.
