<p>Sony is looking to launch a dollar-pegged stablecoin in 2026, and PlayStation could become one of the first major gaming platforms to integrate blockchain-based payments.</p><p>In October 2025,&nbsp;<a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/sony-bank-issue-usd-pegged-085446951.html">Sony Bank filed for a U.S. national banking charter</a>, with plans to issue a stablecoin. The U.S. market takes priority because it accounts for roughly 30 percent of Sony's global revenue.</p><p>Ideally, Sony’s stablecoin would operate alongside traditional payment methods, serving as an alternative for purchasing games, DLC, subscriptions, and in-game content.</p><div class="raw-html-embed">

</div><h2>Sony’s Blockchain Ties</h2><p>Sony has been involved in the blockchain space with its own solution,&nbsp;<a href="https://funjible.games/news/sony-s-l2-soneium-goes-live-on-mainnet">Soneium. The Ethereum Layer-2</a> network launched on mainnet in January 2025. While the stablecoin experiments could also allow Sony to consider Bitcoin and Ethereum payments, we believe it is more likely that the tech giant will stick to stablecoins to avoid confusion among its player base.</p><p>The gaming industry has been testing crypto integration for years, but major console manufacturers have largely stayed on the sidelines. The stablecoin would function as another payment option in the checkout flow, similar to how PayPal or digital wallets currently work.</p><p>Sony hasn't announced a specific launch date or confirmed which services would accept the stablecoin first. While Sony is likely to run plenty of tests, the manufacturer may hold off on the release until everything is running smoothly.</p><p>At Funjible Games, we’re curious whether a stablecoin payment integration could positively impact Web3 games present in Sony’s store.
