There is no token-based economy in the Steam version of Phantom Galaxies. The game is initially free-to-play. However, players do need to use specific resources to upgrade items like their ships and weapons, and these resources require the use of an in-game currency called Starling to get. The acquisition of Starling requires fiat money for purchase.For the Web3 version of Phantom Galaxies (playable via HyperPlay, Ultra, Epic Games Store, and the game's official website), a token system is in place. Players can earn ASTRAFER from selling NFT items, completing missions, and taking part in special events. Furthermore, players who own planets and asteroids gain ASTRAFER over time as the token is emitted from their property holdings. The full details on this token emission has not be fully released yet. Players will also be able to rent out their starships to other players, but the game has not implemented this system yet. Phantom Galaxies on Steam offers a mixed bag when it comes to gameplay. First and foremost, the game does offer a lot of action for players to enjoy. The main gameplay experience of Phantom Galaxies is PvE, and the PvE campaign is pretty strong (unlike many other blockchain games that rely upon player-versus-player conflict). Players undertake missions in their starfighter across various regions of space, and the starfighter can also transform into a mech. I found it enjoyable to transform back and forth between the two forms to blast away at my enemies. There are four different ships, each offering their own playing style.However, a number of issues negatively impact the gameplay. One such issue in the Steam version of Phantom Galaxies is that there is no keybinding ability. Another is that core components of the UI in combat are lacking, such as easily tracking the location of enemies and distance indicators to waypoints. No maps pop up for navigation assistance within a mission instance. The game randomly generates the avatar for the player, and the only option given to players to change their appearance is to randomly generate a new appearance. In this day and age, it should be a given that players enjoy the option to fully customize their characters, especially in an action rpg.Overall, the core gameplay of Phantom Galaxies is solid, but it definitely needs some more polish.

Phantom Galaxies features some great visuals and audio. Overall, the graphics look tremendous, and it is a treat to view the various space settings one travels to throughout the game. The transformation of the player's starfighter into a mech (and vice-versa) is smooth and looks good. The interiors of stations and ships look sharp. The game features some great music, and I particularly liked the operatic nature of some of the music played during some missions. Overall, the sound effects are solid, such as weapons firing and explosions. I did find some of the audio lacking a bit such as a small clunking sound when my ship hit an asteroid at full speed.Despite the nitpicking, the sound and graphics in Phantom Galaxies are top-notch for a game originally created for the blockchain.

Phantom Galaxies features a strong backstory. The game is currently set 50 years after a war between the Union and Commonwealth of Neoterra. Now the two sides enjoy an uneasy alliance in the face of threats from two fronts – an alien race known as the Sha'Har and lawless pirate guilds. The Sha'Har have a technological edge over humanity, and they seek to punish mankind over the desecration of the ancestral planets of their race. Meanwhile, pirate guilds are a constant menace to trade and stability.Keeping the peace in this troubled time is an organization of Rangers, highly skilled pilots drawn from the ranks of the Union and Commonwealth. ILV is the ERC-20 token that is native to the Illuvium ecosystem. It is not needed for gameplay. However, Illuvium Arena has set aside a portion of the overall ILV supply to use as rewards for gameplay. Overall, ILV is used for three things: governance, liquidity mining, and vault distribution (ILV stakers will receive a proportional amount of the vault's treasury that is funded by sales). The game's marketplace, dubbed the IlluviDex, will open when the game moves into open beta.The economy for the Illuvium system is interesting as it relies upon a relationship between supply games and demand games. The supply games (Illuvium Overworld and Illuvium Zero) generate fuel and items that are then consumed in the demand games (Arena and Illuvium Beyond). The developers state that no further supply games will be created but that there will be a focus on creating additional demand games. Illuvium Arena has a strong auto-battle gameplay mechanic. A player fights against other players (PvP mode) or against waves of enemy creatures (PvE mode) by deploying their Ranger (the player's in-game avatar) and Illuvials and other items from a deck. In the PvE mode (called Survival), players fight until they are defeated. In PvP mode (called Ascendant), players fight a number of rounds until one player is reduced to zero health.The decks players use are comprised of Illuvials (creatures), Augments (boosts), Weapons, and Suits. There is a ton of strategy found in Illuvium Arena as players work to create and utilize the best deck possible. The game features a steep learning curve as many aspects of the Illuvials are used to create synergy between themselves, enhancing their abilities and powers on the battlefield. There are five basic elements (Fire, Air, Nature, Earth, and Water) and five basic classes (Fighter, Rogue, Empath, Psion, and Bulwark). Some Illuvials have two classes, creating a sub-class (such as a Fighter and Rogue combination creating the Slayer sub-class). In addition, how Illuvials are placed on the battlefield, not to mention the use of Augments and other items, also have a huge impact on how a battle plays out. Any player of a deck-building game knows variety is the spice of life, and Illuvium Arena offers this spice in abundance. Once the forces are set, the player sits back and watches the battle unfold.There are two drawbacks to the gameplay of Illuvium Arena. The first is the game boasts a steep learning curve. There are so many Illuvials (not to mention Augments and such) with their differing classes and affinities, it is extremely difficult to new players to get a handle of powerful winning strategies. It would be great to see the game implement in-game tutorials to walk the players through the process of building a deck and suggestions on how to pair Illuvials to create powerful synergies. Another issue impacting the game is that deck building is not handled in-game. Players need to visit the <a href="https://play.illuvium.io/team-builder">game's website</a> to sift through all the card possibilities and create decks of their own. These decks are then imported into Illuvium Arena. This is a huge drawback, but the game's developers have stated that deck building will eventually be added to the in-game experience.

Illuvium Arena is built using Unreal Engine 5 and it shows. The game looks tremendous, with the Illuvials (the creatures players use in battles) depicted in tremendous detail. Overall, Illuvium Arena has a strong backstory. All four Illuvium games share a common lore, which is that the players represent people exploring an alien world that they crashed upon. While exploring the planet, players will encounter Illuvials (the world's native creatures), which they can capture and use. The lore permeates into the details associated with Illuvials, such as the different classes, elemental affinities, powers, and so on. Katana Inu boasts some strong gameplay when it comes to fighting. The action is very dynamic as players leap around the battlefield, slicing and dicing with their weapons, all the while dodging attacks, using abilities, and using the arena's full three dimensions and terrain to the best effect possible. The game offers three gameplay styles currently: a tutorial, one-versus-one duels, and three-versus-three fights. Then it's back to the main screen to queue up for the next opponent. Overall, the bare bones of Katana Inu are strong as this style of combat game has been popular for decades. The eventual layering of NFT weapons and skins will serve as icing on the cake. To be frank, the base gameplay of Katana Inu is pretty fun.

It should be noted at the start that this editorial review is for the current version of the game, which is in closed beta. Therefore, the game is still limited in a number of ways as the devs work on the core mechanics of the game. On the plus side, both the audio and visuals for Katana Inu are extremely strong. The visuals are very lush and colorful, helping bring the fantasy/historical motif to life. The various body and weapon skins range from very humorous to looking badass, with plenty of stops in-between. Players can sling some colorful spells against their opponents, helping to jazz up the battlefield. My only critique is one I normally make in fighting games in that the music becomes repetitive over time. Fortunately, players can adjust the music volume in the settings menu. Overall, I give the sound and graphics a strong 4 out of 5.

Katana Inu boasts an intriguing lore that helps immerse players into the game. Long before humanity arose, animal clans had long existed. These ancient civilizations lived in harmony, and this harmony was due to seven ancient relics that were imbued with the essence of the natural world. Alas, calamity struck when a fissure in the Earth's crust opened and released entrapped demonic energy. This demonic energy rained chaos and destruction across the land, and the seven ancient relics were lost. The animal clans, which had lived in perfect harmony, began to fight each other. When humans began to make their mark upon the planet, further mayhem ensued as endless alliances were created and later fractured as the fight for dominance continued. Now a handful of individuals seek to find the ancient relics in the hope of restoring harmony once again or for less altruistic reasons. You can, however, buy Land from other users that are selling theirs on the marketplace or participate in auctions that take place from time to time. Owning Land in Decentraland gives you full ownership to build the 3D illustrations of your Land and also monetize your content and applications.Users can also rent their Land for others to build and use and earn monthly incomes. However, buying Land is only feasible for someone with high liquidity because they are pretty expensive. For someone for whom buying Land is not feasible, they can get creative and make clothes and wearable items like hats, jewelry, hoodies, and sneakers and sell them on the marketplace for a profit. Of course, there are play-to-earn games in Decentraland and gambling to earn some decent rewards. Decentraland also has real world opportunities as it offers jobs from time to time for developers, freelancers, and interns in-game. Gameplay would be quite familiar for you if you have played open virtual world games like Minecraft. The metaverse is free-to-play, allowing users to freely explore. You can play as a guest but we suggest you connect your wallet as it will give you a chance to earn all the rewards and currencies in the game.Firstly, you customize and name your Avatar after you finish signing up. After that, you are ready to drop into the metaverse known as Decentraland. Every new user is dropped in the Genesis Plaza with other new players. The first thing that comes on your screen are the tutorials that we suggest you go through when you first play the game. There are boards highlighting new events, classic games, and other activities for you to try, or you could drop right into the giant whirlpool and explore it for yourself.&nbsp;Each land has its own unique facilities: some are NFTs and art galleries, others could have mini-games for you to play and earn rewards. There’s a Vegas City with casinos where players can gamble and there’s a mining game as well if you are a fan of Minecraft, not to mention a mini-golf game too. Plus, there’s a lot of experiences for you to explore in Decentraland. There are also new and special events taking place in the metaverse from time to time. &nbsp;

Graphics are quite advanced and futuristic for a browser-based platform. The fidelity and the colors when you drop in Decentraland are top notch. The whole virtual world is built by 3D application. There were some pop in issues I encountered (at the time of writing) both in the browser and application while exploring a little further in various lands, but we hope that would be resolved in time. You might have to turn on Hardware Acceleration in your browser for Decentraland to make full use of your hardware.Sound and music are where Decentraland takes the whole points as that, from the moment you drop in the metaverse, the music makes an impact as it sways your emotions. The different experiences have their own music and in-game sounds. However, some experiences in lands are still in development so they have no sounds or music in them. &nbsp;

There is no particular story in Decentraland since it’s a metaverse. However, some experiences or games in Decentraland do have their own little storyline/lore. For example, there is a mini-game called Dice Master where you get a quest to find a noble who has fled along with his daughter. Some NPCs in other mini-games too have a backstory which will be revealed in small dialogues when you talk to them. But don’t expect a big storyline or lore in Decentraland, at least for now. &nbsp;

The Sandbox has an in-game currency called SAND which will be used for all transactions like buying and selling Land, NFTs, or any other equipment or assets in the game and in the marketplace. SAND is an ERC-20 utility token based on the Ethereum blockchain and can be bought on most platforms like Binance, Uniswap, Upbit, etc. SAND would also be used for staking, governance using a DAO system, and liquidity mining for passive income. You can also stake mSAND tokens directly which is open to everyone on Polygon Network, which is The Sandbox's effort to go green and also improve the user experience.Now there’s also a concept of Land. The whole of The Sandbox metaverse is made up of Lands which are ERC-1155 based and act as digital real estate in The Sandbox. You can buy Land and create your own experience or rent it to other users for them to build on. Both Land and SAND are available in fixed quantities with 3,000,000,000 SAND tokens and 166,464 Lands to be ever available. The Sandbox’s play-to-earn aspect was available in Seasons 1 and 2 of Alpha and will be there when other seasons and the game itself releases. You earn SAND as a reward for finishing quests and events in various game experiences. You can also get creative and monetize your creations in VoxEdit and Game Maker by selling them in the marketplace. &nbsp;

The gameplay possibilities within The Sandbox metaverse are endless, especially if you play the experiences created by different users in The Sandbox Game Maker. From an underground Atlantis city with cryptocurrencies on exhibition to going through trials of dungeons to find the lost treasure, the possibility and creativity that can be applied by users and played by other users is again endless.&nbsp;The Sandbox Alpha, on the other hand, has updates from time to time where there’s always new and different experiences created by The Sandbox team themselves. There’s already been two seasons and more are yet to come. In Season 2, users got more than 35 experiences, which included 18 upgraded experiences seen in Season 1, plus five new original experiences, four new Game Maker experiences, and three new IP experiences such as Snoop Dogg’s Foreplay (where he showcased his NFT collection) and other show experiences.&nbsp;There are usually quests when you drop to a game experience and other side quests you can get by talking to the NPCs. Next comes the VoxEditor which allows you to create, animate, and model your own voxel-based models/NFTs and sell them on the marketplace. You can also create your own game without any coding with The Sandbox Game Maker. The Sandbox strives to be a real metaverse, wherein users can enter with their avatar and move around from one land to another and do whatever they want. &nbsp;

The Sandbox has voxel-based graphics which are quite similar to games like Minecraft and Roblox but are actually somewhat more advanced than them with more elaborate visuals and rich colors. The game is not that graphic intensive and would run on most computer these days as it needs a minimum of 4 GB of ram, 64 bit processor, and at least Windows 7.The sound and music when you drop into the Alpha game is quite soothing and relaxed, especially when I explored the NFT museum in the Alpha. Game Maker, on the other hand, has a variety of in-game sounds people have created for their in-game experiences which can be varying from calming to tense to mystic. There are also party music themes in some of the exhibitions, such as DJs and clubs taking place in The Sandbox Game Maker user experiences and some in the Alpha seasons. There have also been talks of virtual concerts to be held in The Sandbox with the likes of Snoop Dogg and Warner Music Group planning to take part.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Since The Sandbox is a metaverse experience, there is no particular storyline, but the lore behind each experience created either by users or The Sandbox team is something quite astonishing. For example, a dark adventure to save a cursed world awaits for you or a demon’s evil power has spread through a peaceful town in the Tang Dynasty. Soon, the demon will destroy the rest of the country unless you save everyone. There is also the mysterious land of Val Echoes, featuring a land of endless sand with marketplaces and necromancers. That and a lot of more varieties of lore are there for you to explore in The Sandbox. &nbsp;

Thetan Arena is a free-to-play game. When you sign up, you get three free heroes whom you use to earn Thetan Coins (THC) by playing in battles, participating in events and quests, and also upon ranking up. THC can be used to buy Thetan Boxes, which contain heroes. There are also Thetan Gems (THG), which has a total supply of 420 million. They can be bought on the crypto exchange market, and you also get it by participating in special events and tournaments in-game and staking heroes. THG can be used for trading in the marketplace, &nbsp;governance votes, evolving heroes, and getting legendary Thetan Boxes (which give you a Legendary Hero) with varying chances of skin rarity.&nbsp;Since Thetan Arena is also a play-to-earn game, there are methods to earn from the game. Firstly, use THC and THG to get Thetan Boxes with premium heroes which can be sold in the marketplace or used for earning more THC and THG. The heroes are also the NFTs in the game as premium heroes, which can be bought, sold, or rented in the marketplace. There’s also an option to purchase heroes directly with a real-time transaction. &nbsp;

Gameplay is very good and simple with movement, shooting, and strategic team building. The player has three abilities to use with two skills and one Fury, which all have a cooldown time. There are three classes of heroes (Assassin, Marksman, and Tank), each having different abilities. As their names suggest, Assassin has high agility and attack with medium health. It is the most well balanced class among the three. Marksman is a ranged class who maintains their distance and kills enemies from afar. They have low health but do high damage with a normal speed. Tanks are the protective frontline hero with shields and high HP (health) but with the slowest speed. Their purpose is to protect and coordinate strategically with teammates.&nbsp;The Fury skill is unique for each hero but the other two skills are selected from a weekly, randomized pool of 15 skills. There are three skill sets encompassing the skills: Effect, Damage, and Support.After selecting your class, players have the option to play five different modes, which are:<ul><li>Battle Royale - Play solo or duo against 12 players in an arena with a shrinking circle and attempt to be the last person/team standing.</li><li>Tower Siege - Defend your tower and destroy the opposing team’s tower with a giant robot summoned by collecting batteries.</li><li>Death Match - Eliminate your opponents and earn points for each kill within a time frame of three minutes.</li><li>Superstar - With a team of four, compete against an opposing team to collect stars. The team with more stars wins.</li><li>Custom game - Customize a game by choosing from all the available maps and game modes. The game is cross-platform and is not very graphic intensive, so you can download it on Android, iOS devices, or PC and start playing without issues. The game also has rich, vibrant colors and animated characters which reminded me of Splatoon.Thetan Arena has very battle-intensive sound effects which start as you land on the dashboard. Each arena has its own characteristic sound effect from soothing to tense. Similarly, each hero has its own unique robotic voice which they use when starting the game and after respawning. &nbsp;

There isn’t any story for the game, which is unusual for a MOBA game, but each hero has its own unique gimmick and lore, which increases excitement to unlock new characters. &nbsp;

Monsterra features a dual-token system: MAG and MSTR. MAG is used in-game for activities, such as building structures and leveling up Mongens. MAG comes in two forms: on-chain and off-chain. The game offers players on-chain MAG as a reward for completing daily tasks. If players wish to instantly complete a task, such as training troops or building structures, they can spend off-chain MAG. The total supply of MAG is uncapped, but the game does feature a burning system in order to keep the supply regulated.MSTR is used across the entire Monsterra metaverse. Players use it to participate in the game's DAO. The token is also used in the game's marketplace to buy items, such as Mongens, structures, boxes, and more. Players can sell items in the marketplace for MSTR. Players can buy MSTR on BitMart, PancakeSwap, and MEXC Global. Lastly, players can stake MAG and MSTR in order to gain rewards.

The gameplay of Monsterra is quite solid. You build up your settlement over time, with structures requiring an amount of resources and time to construct. Each building has their purpose, such as farms producing food, habitats providing a place to live for your Mongens, and breeding dens for mating Mongens to create a new one. Structures can be improved to higher levels by spending resources and time. The Landcore is the most important structure as it determines the size of the player's settlement as well as how high you can improve structures. The game also features decorative structures that add bonuses to players' Mongens.Mongens serve as the player's generals in the field as well as being needed to produce resources. There are five different races of Mongen, and each one has a wide variety of possible body parts. Needless to say, Mongens come in differing rarities, ranging from common to legendary. Each Mongen can lead a number of creatures as troops, and these troops can also be of differing rarity.The main focus, other than building up one's settlement, is fighting. Players send their Mongens to fight in battles, which can take several forms. One battle type is a boss challenge, featuring powerful entities for the player to take down. Players can also attack the settlements of other players to steal resources. Adventure mode finds the player attacking AI-controlled settlements in order to gain experience and food. The player selects a starting point on the map for their Mongens, and then the battle commences. You can speed up the action by clicking on the arrow in the bottom right corner of the map.

Monsterra features graphics that are colorful and humorous. The visuals are pretty standard for such world-building games. The Mongens themselves are the highlight with their varied appearances. My main Mongen sported a toilet plunger on one side of his head. There's a fair bit of animation, and you can zoom in to view your settlement or watch a battle unfold.The music does a good job of setting the mood, such as marching into battle. While it can get repetitive, there are a number of various tracks that play. You can change the volume of the sound effects and the music through the Settings tab. Overall, the music and sound effects are typical of breeding/world-building games.

Monsterra really doesn't have a backstory to the game other than Mongens have long existed with humans. To be fair, the lack of backstory does not detract from the gameplay.

Mighty Action Heroes features various currencies. Players can link their NFTs to gain a daily amount of Mighty BITs, which can be used to buy items in the game's shop. However, players cannot trade or sell their NFTs while they are linked.Gamers can purchase hero crates, perk crates, currency, and crafting crates in the game's shop. Crafting supply crates need Mighty BITs to be purchased. Players can craft gadgets, such as grenades, to give them an edge in combat. Crafting requires various components, such as blueprints. Players can buy perk supply crates with gems, while hero supply crates can be purchased with games or Mighty BITs. Mighty Action Heroes boasts some fun gameplay. As the game is in beta, it currently only has one game mode – a 20-person battle royale. Players choose their hero (the game gives you two for free) and then quickly launch into a battle. The player starts off with a basic weapon but can pick up other weapons, armor, and health add-ons found on the map. Different weapons will have different ranges and fire arcs, which will be represented on-screen, and will come in three rarity levels. The overall nature of the game is light-hearted, which comes across in the game's lobby (featuring your avatar loafing on a couch surrounded by pizza boxes) and in other ways, such as health add-ons being pizza slices.You start off with two heroes for free, but you can also buy additional ones in the game's marketplace. Each hero has a designated class (like fighter or balanced), an ability (like dodge roll or flying kick), and perks that players can choose to enhance their hero. A hero has four traits (health, speed, armor, and luck) that will vary depending upon their class and rarity. Overall, I'm giving gameplay a four as the game is fun to play and I assume more maps and modes will be added later.

The graphics for Mighty Action Heroes are quite solid. The game features a colorful cartoonish look that is pleasing to the eye. The game's map has a lot of details, and I really enjoyed some of the nods made to some of the classic movies in the action genre you'll come across. While the song is good, boasting some screeching guitar worthy of an 80s action flick, it does become monotonous after a while. Therefore, I'm giving the graphics and sound a combined rating of three out of five.

I haven’t been able to find a story for Mighty Action Heroes. However, a background story is not extremely important for this type of game. NOTE: As since story is not important to this game, we are giving it a score of three in regards to giving the game a proper average score based on the other factors (gameplay, economy, and graphics).
